Report: Modern Warfare 3 Coming This November

A third game in the Modern Warfare series is coming this year, according to a new report from the Los Angeles Times.

Citing unnamed sources, the LA Times says Activision has recruited Sledgehammer Games, the studio currently working on another unannounced Call of Duty title, and Raven Software (Singularity) to help finish development of Modern Warfare 3 for release this November.

The report states both Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward are equally completing the single-player portion of the game, while Raven is working on its online multiplayer features.

Due to the developer collaboration, sources said the Call of Duty spin-off project in development at Sledgehammer, rumored to be set in the future, has now been put on hold.

Since Infinity Ward executives Jason West and Vince Zampella were fired from the studio in March, more than 35 employees have left the studio. Activision said recently it has received over 5,000 applicants to fill the vacancies.

The publisher has not publicly announced what Call of Duty title would be released this year, but did confirm a new game would be arriving in the back half of 2011.

When asked about the report, an Activision representative told IGN, "There's been much speculation recently. We look forward to releasing details for the next Call of Duty in the near future."

Modern Warfare 3 could be just days away from a reveal if a recent teaser site is to be believed.

A countdown site has appeared with the url www.findmakarov.com , with the familiar Modern Warfare font ticking down with just under five days left to run.

It's backed up by dogtags sent out to the gaming press, with That Video Game Blog receiving a handful of them pointing towards the site and bearing the name Sheperd, a character from Modern Warfare 2.

It's as yet unclear who is on development duties for the next Call of Duty game, although there's five studios working on the franchise to pick from. Infinity Ward is one candidate, with Sledgehammer another outfit linked to producing a new Call of Duty game this year.

GDC kicks off this Monday in San Francisco, and IGN will be bringing you all the news as it breaks throughout the event.

probably cause of the success of infinity wards cod4.
we still dont know who the developers are and what engine they're running.
all we know is it might not even be a call of duty game anymore.

When asked if Activision is planning to reveal any games on Wednesday morning, the spokesperson said "Nope."

so rumor is, there is gonna be a live action movie, or a short film on mw1 and 2.
really looks great. the ending of both games looks epic. and after they show the ending of mw2. people are saying thats how mw3 will start. really looks good. hope its a short film rather than a movie. and posted on youtube. and good too see price back in mw3.!

i hope the rumors about the vehicles are wrong
destruction 2.0 engine will be amazing imo. just taking that from battlefield
maybe something better will come out of this. wonder what kind of engine thryre
gonna be using. it will make it a better game and will stop the campers.

but on the other hand. it can also stop the rushing and gamespeed of the game
cause then everyone who cherish their kdr's will just fear to enter the middle of the battlefield.

either way, i think they're just trying to keep their #1 game from getting beat from bf3.
still hyped for another mw game no matter what. online always had its problems but i always
seem to come running back for more action. plus, the mw campaign's are the only ones
i have a interest in. hope it relates to the last two

I knew MW3 was going to be about WW3, looks crazy. Looking forward for future trailers/gameplay.

Actually have another good mw feeling, unlike treyarchs game. Can't wait to see gsmeplay with whatever engine or diff ideas their using. Sledgehammer better not mess it up

I have a feeling they will. They are new to it and have to rush the game in two years.

Nice trailer but I will wait for gameplay before I judge the game.

Jesus, machinima just had a interview with sark, they said it's going to be a cod 4 based multiplayer . They are bringing back cod 4 mp5. No stacking kill streaks anymore, no one man army , no commando.... It's going to be a gun based game again! Just like black ops, no gun skill means no success. This game will be amazing, if they just make a better cod 4, this game will break records!... Again lol
